Information Technology Management Careers Enable the Growth of Information Technology
As global Information Technology (IT) continues to grow at a rapid pace, the availability, privacy, and integrity of electronically stored data is of the utmost importance. New vulnerabilities, threats, and risks to the hardware, software, information, and data systems are created daily. In response, the IT industry has begun to employ information technology managers whose must protect information input, process, and output, and thereby ensure information confidentiality, authenticity, and availability.

How does an Information Technology Manager Get the Job Done?
The information technology manager has a multifaceted job. His or her first task is to plan and create an organization's information technology program. This requires establishing or updating security policies and requirements. Then, the information technology manager works with the organization's senior management to gather resources needed for program implementation. When the program has been implemented, the information technology manager must monitor organizational compliance and the efficacy of the program, making sure that all employees understand the importance of security and are willing to report any violations of security policy.

The Educational Background of an Information Technology Manager
The information technology manager serves an elite and invaluable function within an organization. Therefore, it is not uncommon for the manager to have a graduate degree in business administration and/or information technology. Most IT managers will have studied system security, network security, application security, information technology risk management, communication ethics, and information and computation theory. Because information technology is constantly evolving, training and education should keep abreast of these evolutions. Degree programs include the master's of science in information technology, the master's of business administration with a concentration in information technology management, and the master's of information systems management.
